The plumbing quote gets written while you are still under the sink.

Fixtures, rough-in, fittings, coring, labour, travel, permit: the shape of a plumbing quote is stable. That is exactly what prices itself once the grid is written down.

Who this page is for, and who it is not for.

Yes, if

  • Price requests arrive by email and by text, usually in the evening, and pile up until Sunday.
  • Your fixture prices and your hourly rates exist somewhere, even in a spreadsheet nobody formalized.
  • You lose renovation contracts because a competitor answered two days before you.
  • Your next hire would be somebody to do estimates, not somebody to hold a wrench.

No, if

  • You only do emergency work: water damage does not get quoted, it gets fixed.
  • Every price gets decided once the wall is open. Le Métreur prices what follows a grid, not what needs eyes on site.
  • You send fewer than ten quotes a month: doing them by hand still costs you less.

What a plumbing quote holds, item by item

  1. Fixtures and trim

What the client sees and names: toilets, sinks, basins, showers, water heaters, faucets. It is the easiest item to price, and the one the client compares hardest.

  2. Rough-in and fittings

Supply and drain lines, valves, coring, firestopping. Invisible to the client, decisive on margin: this is where a loose takeoff gets paid on the job site.

  3. Labour and the rest

Hours by journeyman and by apprentice, travel, the municipal permit where it applies, pressure testing and making good. Those items follow fixed rules at your shop, which is exactly why they price themselves best.

What Le Métreur hands back on a plumbing quote

06 deliverables

  1. The fixtures listedEach with its count, pulled from what the client actually wrote.
  2. The rough-in estimatedSupply, drain, valves and coring, at your grid's own rules.
  3. Hours split outJourneyman and apprentice separately, at the rates you really apply.
  4. Travel and permitBy zone and by municipality, when your grid covers them.
  5. The draft replyWritten in your voice, sitting in your outbox.
  6. The gaps flaggedWhat the request does not say and has to be asked before pricing.

A price that follows the volume, not the seat count

The question is not what a piece of software costs. It is what the person you would have to hire to do the estimating costs. In Quebec, a junior estimator runs close to $5,000 CAD a month once payroll costs are in.

What plumbers ask us

How do you price rough-in without seeing the basement?
We do not price it blind. The grid carries your usual rules for a given job, and anything outside that gets flagged rather than guessed. When the request does not settle it, the question to put back to the client comes with the quote.
My fixture prices change every season.
You tell us, and the grid follows from the next request on. That is one reason this is not software sold once: a grid that ages produces wrong quotes, not slow ones.
How do residential and commercial stay separate?
Separate grids, from tier 2 on. Mixing them into one grid is the mistake we see most often, and it produces exactly the kind of variance we are trying to remove.
What about emergencies and night calls?
An emergency does not get quoted, it gets answered. Water damage calls for somebody to take it in hand right away, not for a quote: that is the job of an agent that takes, qualifies and hands over, not of the pricing.
How is this different from ordinary quoting software?
Quoting software lays your prices out once somebody has decided what to put in. The long part is that decision, and that is the part we take.

Bring three plumbing quotes you have already sent. We show you the gap.
