Task · the quote

Quoting software does not write the quote. It waits for you to write it.

That is the blind spot of the whole category: the tool lays your prices out, but somebody still has to read the request, measure the work and type the lines. That somebody is what we replace, not the form.

Who this page is for, and who it is not for.

Yes, if

  • You already run a quoting tool, and the long part is still deciding what to put in it.
  • Your requests arrive by email, not in a tidy form somebody filled out for you.
  • Your prices exist somewhere: a grid, a spreadsheet, a catalogue, however old.

No, if

  • You want a better looking quote layout. A template will cost you far less.
  • What you actually want is quantities pulled off a drawing: that is takeoff, a different task.
  • Every price gets decided standing on the site. None of what follows applies.

Where the hours actually go in a quote

  1. Reading the request

A client writes three vague lines. Somebody has to pull the real work out of them, the quantities, what is in and what is out. That is where the first half hour goes, and no form recovers it.

  2. Applying the grid

Finding the right price, the right travel zone, the right rate. At most companies that grid lives in the heads of two people who do not price quite the same way.

  3. Writing and sending

The only step quoting software really covers. It is the smallest share of the time, and the one the whole industry automated first.

What changes once the writing is already done

05 deliverables

  1. The quote arrives writtenLine by line, from the request that came in, not from an empty template.
  2. The delay drops to minutesThe 7 p.m. request has its draft before 7:15.
  3. Two people price the same wayThe grid becomes written, therefore checkable, therefore shared.
  4. You keep the decisionNothing leaves without review. The pricing is proposed, never sent.
  5. The variance gets measuredWhat was priced against what was invoiced, so the grid gets corrected.

A price that follows the volume, not the seat count

The question is not what a piece of software costs. It is what the person you would have to hire to do the estimating costs. In Quebec, a junior estimator runs close to $5,000 CAD a month once payroll costs are in.

What people ask us about this task

We already have quoting software. Do we have to switch?
No, and usually the opposite. Yours lays out and sends; what gets added is what comes before: reading the request, measuring the work, applying the grid. The two connect when yours exposes an API.
What happens to requests that do not fit the grid?
They come back to you exactly as they came in, flagged as outside the grid, with no invented number. A wrong quote costs more than a missing one.
What if my trade has very particular line items?
That is what the setup is for. We start from the quotes you have already sent, line by line. The three trades whose quote structure we know best have their own page: plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
How many quotes a month before it is worth it?
Under ten a month, doing them by hand still costs less, and you will hear that on the call rather than after the invoice. The math flips when the delay starts costing contracts, not when the volume looks impressive.

Bring three quotes you have already sent. We show you where the hours went.
